FAQ

Q?

Where will my dog sleep at night?

A.

We have a large bunkhouse with individual dens(10ftx4ft) with a large bed and water. It features heat or ac and all night music and movies to feel like home.

Q?

What if my dog is upset during the night?

A.

Being that we live on site, we can usually hear whenever the dogs are in distress or unhappy. We attend to them very quickly. If we have a special needs dog, we can set up their sleeping crate on the enclosed porch in the house, so as to check on them even more readily.

Q?

My dog will NOT go into a crate. What will you do with him?

A.

We have a kennel facility with runs which some dogs perfer to a crate. All the runs are the maximum size recommended by the licensing division for the county. If your dog does not feel comfortable confined in a crate at night, please let us know. For special needs dogs we have a tiled in, secure porch attached to the house. In that porch, we have air, heat, light, and dog beds scattered throughout. If dogs don’t like crates, that is where they spend their evenings. After a long day of running and playing, this comfortable alternative has worked great with our anti-crate guests.

Q?

My dog is older/more mellow and won’t want to run and play the entire time. How will you take care of him?

A.

Older dogs are wonderful companions! There are several areas where older dogs can rest, sleep or enjoy the view. We have comfortable dog beds on the porches outside the house, as well as access to a cool concreted area. As there is constant supervision, your pet’s needs will be addressed, whether they need more exercise or more rest.

Q?

How do I know my dog is happy and being taken care of properly?

A.

At Alpine Dog Ranch, we want to make sure you are comfortable with the entire process. We are readily available via telephone at any point you would like to call and check on your dog.

Q?

What do I do about food for my dog?

A.

We believe that part of adjusting to a new situation is to have some familiar things. Food is one of them. Staying on the same diet is good for a dog’s system and staying on a schedule is also important. If you know how much your dog eats and how long you will be gone, please provide that food when you drop off your dog and/or your dog is picked up. We will feed your dog the food you provide at the normal feeding times.

Q?

How do the discounts work?

A.

We try very hard to make Alpine Dog Ranch an affordable option. During non-holiday times we offer a 10% discount for a multiple dog stay or an extended stay. (An extended stay is a minimum of 14 days.) We are unable to offer discounts during holiday periods. Please contact us if you would like to book a long-term stay of more than one month, as our long-term rates vary based on holiday times and availability.

Q?

My dog is sometimes a little grouchy. What do you do with grumpy dogs?

A.

We haven’t had many problems in this regard. There are so many things to do at ADR that dogs that don’t get along have no trouble finding other things to do/dogs to play with. Because we have so much area, it is easy to separate dogs in case such problems arise. Because we take so few dogs, it is easy to supervise the dogs and thwart such incidents. We also strive to make sure the dogs we take at ADR are friendly. Grouchy we can do. Mean we cannot.

Q?

Can we get photos emailed while we are gone?

A.

We do not have DSL or cable up in the mountains, so we have had difficulty emailing photos. We can take daily photos and place them on a disk for you. Please request this service when you make your reservation. There is a $15 fee for photos on a disk. If you provide a disposable camera, we would be happy to take pictures of your dog each day of the stay. This has proven to be a good option with other clients. There is no additional charge if you provide the camera. Please mark your dog’s name on the camera, so we can make sure the right ones go home together. 🙂

Q?

Why should I send my dog to Alpine, instead of a local kennel?

A.

For the most important reason of all, your dog’s happiness. There is no loss of convenience, as we offer pick up and delivery service. Your dog will not be happy locked up in a kennel or crate virtually all day long. Being able to run, play, receive warm human and canine attention will make your dog happy.

Q?

Are you licensed/insured?

A.

Yes. We are licensed by the County of San Diego, and regularly inspected. In accordance with county regulations, we MUST have copies of vaccinations for all dogs on the premises. Please remember to bring your vaccination record! We are members of NAPPS, and carry appropriate kennel insurance. If you do not remember to provide your vaccination records, we will not be able to take your dog, unless you want us to transport your dog to the local vet for revaccination. This is a matter of licensure, animal health and welfare – please keep track of your pet’s vaccinations and keep them up to date.
